Me and My Walk

Walking with Jesus…

Walk’ may be a bit of an overstatement. There are better verbs available to describe my Christian journey…creep, crawl, shuffle, stumble and stray all come to mind. But, praise Him, God is ever faithful to lift me up, redirect my steps and light my way over, and over, and over again.

Family

Not everyone is blessed to have a close-knit, loving family. I am, and they are my greatest joy this side of eternity. My parents, brother, sister and all three of my children are numbered among my closest friends, while my grandchildren put a smile on my face every time I see them. And the circle expands…I don’t have “in-laws” (I hate that term), “in-Christ, in-love”, those are better terms for the other amazing people my wife, siblings and children have brought into my life. And speaking of the most important person in my life…I’ve been married to my best friend, Laurie, for decades, and yet it seems like only the blink of an eye ago that God gave her to me. She is beautiful–inside and out, a mighty servant of God–prayer warrior without peer, my partner in life and ministry, and most importantly, my spiritual compass, always there to gently remind me to put my feet back on the lighted path. To sum it all up, my favorite times are those spent gathered around the kitchen table with the people he loves, playing games or just talking and enjoying each other’s company–or crawling around the living room floor playing “Papa fetch the toy” with a giggling toddler. That’s the good stuff, thank you, Lord!

Work

Other than a few short term jobs I held during my high school years, I’ve only had one real job in my entire life. I joined the US Air Force before finishing High School (a story for another time), not for any particular patriotic reason–that came later, but to keep from starving (another story for another time). I thought I was getting a job, but thirty-seven years later (20 active duty and 17 as a civilian) I retired from an incredible career that blessed me with the opportunity to serve my country, while working with some of the most selfless, bright and talented people I’ve ever met.
Since retiring, I’ve focused on grandparenting, ministry and turning my lifelong hobby–writing, into my main way of serving God. I’m about to send my latest writing project off to a prospective agent, so if you could throw a few prayers in the direction of “Invitation to Lakehurst Manor” it would be greatly appreciated.

What I Believe…

  • God spoke and created EVERYTHING
  • Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior
    • He is the same yesterday, today and forever
    • He is the Word of God; living and active…piercing to the division of soul and of spirit…discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
  • Since the Word of God is Jesus Christ, the Word is inerrant and unchanging.
    • All scripture is inspired (God breathed) by the Holy Spirit.
    • Though Heaven and Earth will pass away, God’s Word will not
      • Men have tried, and will try, to corrupt the Word. but the only lasting result is drawing the wrath of God down upon themselves
  • Everyone is born into sin and doomed to everlasting Hell without the intercession of Jesus Christ through His saving grace
    • This grace is available to all, but only received through truly accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord of your life.
    • God doesn’t need any of us, but He wants all of us! (How incredible is that?!)

My Greatest Hope and Prayer…

That millions upon millions upon millions of more knees would bow before Christ returns. That seems more and more unlikely in these dark times…‘but with God, all things are possible!’
